As an initiate to reduce CO2 emission, the Malaysia government has decided to increase the use of renewable energy by having more large scale grid connected solar PV power plants. 450 MW of large scale solar PV plants are planned for development in Malaysia in 2017-2018.
To hasten the implementation of large scale solar PV plants, the Energy Commission, Malaysia is currently conducting Request for Proposals in 2017 for another 460 MW to be commissioned in 2019/2020 of which 360 MW is in Peninsular Malaysia and 100 MW in Sabah and Labuan. The closing date of the bid is 1 August 2017.
