The export of Norwegian Seafood to Southeast Asia has grown tremendously during the past few years. Thailand is now the largest export market in Southeast Asia for seafood from Norway with exports reaching more than NOK 1.5 billion in 2019. In 2020, the export value was close to 2019 and 2021 is looking to be an even better year than 2019. As of June 2021 the export value of fresh airflown salmon and trout grew by 32% as compared to 2019 and 30% above 2020. 2019 was already a record year for Norwegian exports. 80% of the export are salmon and trout and more than 90% of that again are fresh airflown products. Thailand particularly has seen a shift towards fresh airflown products, mainly for raw consumption in the country’s many Japanese restaurants.
