ThaiFex – World of Food Asia 2019

This year Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) will sport its biggest stand ever at ThaiFex from 28 May to 1 June 2019. ThaiFex 2019 takes place at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, close to Muang Thong Thani and is the largest fair of its kind in Thailand.  Norwegian Seafood Council’s stand is located in the seafood section of the “World of Food Asia” at IMPACT Challenger.

The fair attracts industry actors from all over the region and is a great venue for meeting existing clients or establishing new business relationships. The feedback from the Norwegian exporters that participated last year was very positive and the fair had a very high level of activity. This year’s Norwegian seafood stand will be completely generic and build on Norwegian origin. Participating companies will get their names and logos visible on the stand, and they will have the opportunity to share their own marketing material such as brochures. However, there will be no opportunity to exhibit own products or to distribute tastings. Norwegian exporters are welcome to use the facilities on the stand and also use it as a meeting place. NSC will also display current seafood products. New this year is a kitchen section as part of the booth to create attention through cooking demos and tastings. This will benefit the participating exporters. For more info about the fair see www.worldoffoodasia.com. Here, the participating companies must register themselves as visitors to access the fair. The registration is free.

On Monday, 27 May at 18.30 hrs, the Norwegian Seafood Council will hold a combined Norwegian mini seminar and seafood dinner at the Westin Hotel in Bangkok. Here leading players from the value chain in Thailand will also be invited. According to the Norwegian and Thai players who participated last year, this was a useful and successful event for the acquisition of market knowledge and networking, and a good introduction to the trade fair itself. The trade fair, seminar and dinner are free for Norwegian exporters.

Norwegian Seafood Council Renews Contract with Norway Connect

Following the successful service delivery in 2017, Norwegian Seafood Council recently renewed their contract with Norway Connect, both for Malaysia and Thailand.

“We are indeed thrilled to continue to work with Norwegian Seafood Council in promoting the best seafood in the world, from the cold, clear waters of Norway”, said Director of Norway Connect for Thailand and Myanmar, Axel Blom.

Norwegian Seafood exports to Malaysia and Thailand exceeded NOK 1.4 billion in 2017 of which 90% was salmon and trout. 70% of the salmonids exported from Norway to the two countries were fresh air-flown goods, a segment which continues to show good growth thanks to the local appetite for Japanese food. Japanese cuisine is a favourite for both Malaysians and Thais, especially raw items like sashimi and sushi. In addition, salmon and trout are finding their way as exotic substitutes for local ingredients in traditional Asian dishes.

This year, Norwegian Seafood Council will again be present at ThaiFex from 29 May to 2 June 2018. The size of the stand this year is 108 sq.m., 50% larger than last year. ThaiFex 2018 takes place at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, close to Muang Thong Thani outside Bangkok and is one of the largest fairs of its kind in Southeast Asia. Norwegian Seafood Council’s stand is located in the seafood section of the “World of Food Asia” at IMPACT Challenger.

“We are committed to making Norwegian Seafood the preferred choice in Malaysia and Thailand”, said Joanne Oo, General Manager of Norway Connect for Malaysia.
